Women’s Intro To Backcountry Program

Description

In 2024 we offered this program on Saturday, January 20th, Saturday, February 3rd, Saturday, March 2nd, or Saturday, March 16th on Mt. Washington in Jackson, New Hampshire in partnership with the Blizzard Tecnica W2W Program.

These days were centered around the identities and experiences of Women and Non-Binary individuals. This intentional focus creates a space where the unique perspectives and narratives of Women and Non-Binary participants are not only acknowledged but celebrated.

We developed our Intro to Backcountry Program with the aim of providing participants the opportunity to get introduced to the backcountry on the East Coast, learn about essential equipment, techniques, interpersonal skills, and special considerations when traveling outside of the resort environments. As with all of our programs we place a high priority on creating a welcoming, inclusive, and empowering space for all individuals. This course is fully guided by professional instructors and is permitted through the White Mountain National Forest. This course is designed for those with some touring experience, but little to no backcountry experience. The head guide of this program is Mack O’Connor, Inclusive Ski Touring’s Backcountry Program Coordinator. On each tour Mack was accompanied by either Meg Pierce from ISTs Board of Directors, Hillary McCloy, or Leslie Baker-Brown the founder and head of the Blizzard Tecnica W2W Program.
