Membership

One membership, a sliding scale

Same membership. You pick the price.

There is one IST membership and three prices for it. The benefits are identical at every level. The price is a sliding scale: you choose the level that fits your finances this year, and that is the only thing that tells the three levels apart.

The price is not about what you get. It is about what fits your year. We invite and expect people with more room to give more, and we take your word for it. Nobody checks and nobody asks.

Every level comes with the same four things.

1
On-resort days
Free on-resort days all season, at every partner mountain.
2
Backcountry
$50 off every backcountry program.
3
Uphill Bash
Every Uphill Bash free.
4
Once a year, in the mail
A packet after the season with the printed impact report, member stickers and a letter from us.

Pick the price by your finances

One membership, three prices.

Three prices for the same thing. Choose by what you can comfortably pay this year, not by what you want from us. Everyone gets the whole membership.

Join In

$50 a year

For when money is tight this year.

Covers you.

Pass It On

$125 a year

For when your basic needs are met and there is some left over.

Covers you, and one more person’s day on snow.

Open the Mountain

$250 a year

For when there is plenty of room after your basic needs.

Covers you, and two more people’s days on snow.

$150

what a day on snow with us is worth, at the going rate

$25

what a participant pays, or nothing if that is a barrier

$127

the gap we covered per on-resort participant last season

That gap is where the second and third levels go: Pass It On closes it for one more person, and Open the Mountain for two.

Which one is yours?

The only question is what you can comfortably pay this year. Not how much you ski, not how much you like us.

This is an imperfect guide. The honest answer is whichever one you can pay without thinking twice, and if you land between two, either one is right.

Three quick questions about your finances, or the full guide below. Either way, nobody checks.

Find the price that fits

At the end of most months, after food, housing, transportation and health care, what is left?

Question 1 of 3

The full guide, by your finances

Join In is for you if
  • money is tight this year, or you are not sure it will stretch to the season;
  • you are a student, between jobs, or working part time and not by choice;
  • other people depend on what you earn;
  • there is little or nothing left at the end of most months;
  • you would have used the free option on a program day, and we would have been glad to see you.
Pass It On is for you if
  • you meet your basic needs most months and have some money left over;
  • you can eat out, see a show, or replace a worn-out glove without planning around it;
  • you are employed, or your household is;
  • you can take a trip now and then without it being a burden;
  • you have paid $25 for a day with us and thought it was a bargain.
Open the Mountain is for you if
  • you meet your basic needs comfortably and have plenty of room after them;
  • you have savings or a retirement account, or you own your home;
  • you travel for fun, or ski more than one mountain a season;
  • a surprise expense would be an annoyance, not a crisis;
  • you have the room to put two more people on snow this winter, and that sounds like a good use of it.

Basic needs means food, housing, transportation and health care. Room means you could buy a coffee out, see a show, or replace a piece of gear without moving money around to do it.

How it works

Why three prices for the same membership?

Because cost is the most common reason someone never tries this. Three prices let the people with more room this year cover the people with less, and the membership itself stays the same for everyone.

Can I pick the lowest price even if I could pay more?

You can, and nobody checks. We ask you not to, because a lower price than you need takes the room that someone else needs. Pick the one you can pay without thinking twice.

When does my code arrive?

Your member code arrives by email within the hour. Enter it in the coupon code box whenever you book, and the day is free, or $50 off in the backcountry. It is yours for the year, so please do not share it.

Does it renew?

Memberships last one year and renew automatically at the same level. We email you 30 days and again 15 days before every renewal, so you have two chances to change or cancel. Because of those two notices, we do not refund a renewal once it has been charged.

Can I cancel, or change levels?

You can cancel any time: click Login at the top of this site. To move to a different level, cancel this one and join again at the new level when it ends.

What comes in the mail?

One packet a year, after the season: the printed impact report, member stickers and a letter from us. Nothing is mailed at purchase, so there is nothing to watch for until late summer.

Do I need one to come?

No. You never need a membership to come. Program days stay $25, with $10 and free options, membership or not.

No membership needed

You never need a membership to come.

Program days stay $25, with $10 and free options, membership or not. A membership is for the people who want to be part of the season all season, and to help carry it.
